Brundall & Blofield Good Neighbour Scheme
Brundall & Blofield Good Neighbour Scheme - Launches on 1st August 2016
Everyone needs a little help now and again and the Good Neighbour Scheme offers the chance for local people to give and receive help in small but important ways.

A Good Neighbour Scheme has been set up to provide support to the communities of Brundall & Blofield. The Scheme will go live on 1 August 2016. With assistance from Community Action Norfolk, funding kindly provided by Broadland District Council and The Shelroy Charitable Trust and through associations with the local parish councils, St. Laurence Church Brundall and St. Andrew & St. Peter Church Blofield the Scheme is very much focussed on people in the local communities.

Brundall & Blofield Good Neighbour Scheme will be run and staffed by vetted, insured and trained local volunteers. The aim of the Scheme is to offer support to people in the community with a variety of small tasks thereby enhancing community spirit and quality of life. Examples of the type of tasks the Scheme will undertake are:

  • Small, light jobs in the home or garden
  • Collection of prescriptions or medication
  • Transport to appointments within the villages
  • A chat over a cup of tea
  • Help with pets
  • Library visits
  • Shopping
  • Help with forms/letters
  • and much more….

The Scheme is not intended to be a replacement for emergency or social services; it’s just about local people helping other local people with relatively little things that can make a very big difference to their quality of life.

Cllr David Ward, Broadland District Council’s member champion for older people, said: “We are really pleased to support this fantastic scheme through both the Grow Your Community project and through a grant from the Community Activities fund for £1,000. As a council, one of our ambitions is to increase levels of health and wellbeing and we are delighted that there are now seven Good Neighbour Schemes within the district. We wish the Brundall and Blofield project every success and hope that the scheme will make the lives of local residents that much easier.”

The Scheme will “go live” on 1 August 2016 and anyone in the villages of Brundall or Blofield who needs assistance, would like to volunteer or find out more should call this number:

Table Tennis in Brundall
Monday Table Tennis
Plays from 8pm to 10pm each Monday except in the month of August and Bank Holiday Mondays.

The club was formed way back in the mid 1960s when a group of young Mums got together on a Tuesday afternoon to play, bringing babies and toddlers along.   As the children grew and went to school, Mums had other commitments and there was also interest from Dads to play, it was decided to change to a Monday evening, as it continues today.

Wednesday Morning Table Tennis
Again in the early 1960s the Brundall & Braydeston WI started playing table tennis in the house of one of their members.   Later in the 1960s they hired the Memorial Hall but by the late 1980s husbands and non-members joined, as it continues today playing from 9.45am to 11.45am.

Monday Evening Table Tennis and Wednesday Morning table tennis now share five table tennis tables.   There are no joining fees, just a payment for playing.   Both clubs are open to all aged over 18 of any ability.   Come along in trainers (we have spare bats).

Any enquiries for Monday Evening Table Tennis can be made to Margaret on 01603 713568 and for Wednesday Morning Table Tennis to Marion on 01603 712681
